Friends of the Library

Who they are, what they are about, and what they've done for us lately!

ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY 2018

The Friends Groups of the White Lake Community Library and the Montague Library will once again be partnering for our 2018 One Book One Community read.  This  year, we have selected Michigan author Drew Philp's book, "A $500 House in Detroit: rebuilding an abandoned home and an American city".

Three Events Planned in October and November
We have invited Drew to the White Lake area on Sunday, November 11, to tell the story of his struggles and triumphs of home ownership and belonging to the community.  The event will take place at Lebanon Lutheran Church, 1101 South Mears, Whitehall.  It will begin with a community potluck at 5 pm, and the author talk will start at 7.

Leading up to the author visit, there will be two panel discussions - one on October 16, and the other on October 23.  Both events start at 7 p.m.  The first one is titled "Community Builders, Building Community" and will feature local residents who have undertaken major renovations of homes or commercial buildings in the area.  They will share stories, memorable moments, and what they learned in the process.  This event will be held in the Montague City Council Chambers.  The second event is called "Race, Rebuilding and Self Discovery.  Panelists will discuss race; rebuilding homes, lives, and communities; self-discovery and other key issues raised in the book.  It will be held at Lebanon Lutheran Church.

The Friends of the Library generally hold their meetings at 6 pm on the first Tuesday of even-numbered months.  Notices appear here, and on the library calendar.
