Fall Programs for Kids and Teens Announced

Meet Sammy the Super Dog, touch a tortoise, and take a haunted story walk on the bike trail, if you dare! These are just a few of the White Lake Community Library Family Nights planned for this fall.  In addition to these popular Thursday night programs, the library offers a full range of early literacy programs for young children, a chess club, and regular events for teens.

FAMILY NIGHTS, weekly programs for children and their grown-ups, will be offered at 6:30 every Thursday from October 1 through November 19.  The series kicks off with Kim Wood’s therapy dogs, followed by a visit from Barb Mulnix and her traveling tortoises.  Other upcoming programs include a visit from Chuck E. Cheese, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid party, and the haunted story walk on the bike trail.  All events are free, and people of all ages are welcome.  Registration is not required, so just stop in and join the fun!

STORY TIMES at the library are a great place for little ones to have fun with stories, crafts, songs and games while developing the early literacy skills essential for becoming good readers.  They are also a great place for parents and caregivers to spend time with other adults, and to learn tips and tricks for encouraging early literacy at home.  Three morning sessions are offered each week, and an evening session is offered twice a month.  Registration is not required for any story times; just join us when you can.

Preschool Story Times, for youngsters age 2 ½ and up, are offered on Mondays at 10:30, beginning September 28. Toddler Story Times, for babies up to age 3 and their caregivers, are held every Tuesday morning beginning September 29.  Two sessions are offered, one at 9:30 and another at 10:30.  Evening Story Times, for families and kids of all ages, are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 pm.  Upcoming dates include September 22, October 13, October 27, November 10, November 24, and December 8.

CHESS CLUB is back for another session this fall!  Beginning Monday, October 5, chess players of all ages and abilities are invited to meet from 4 pm to 5 pm to learn the game, improve their skills, and/or challenge other players.  This group is led by Doug Ogden, and will continue to meet on Monday afternoons through November 9.  The first two sessions will be geared for beginners.

TEEN EVENTS at the library this fall include a weekly open gaming session every Friday from 2 to 4 pm.  It’s a great opportunity to meet other gamers for video games, Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, and free snacks.  There will also be an after-hours movie on Friday, October 2, from 8 to 10:15.  Avengers: Age of Ultron will be shown on the big screen, with free popcorn provided by McCormicks.  The library closes at 5 pm, but the doors will be re-opened at 7:45 for this event.
